Chandigarh, December 30, 2024 (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau): The Meteorological Department has issued a fog alert for the plains and northeastern states. It stated that dense to very dense fog is expected in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Rajasthan during early mornings and late nights. Additionally, a dense fog alert has been issued for Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura until January 2. An alert for rain has been issued for Delhi NCR, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan on January 1-2.
The Meteorological Department also reported light rain in some areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. According to the department, temperatures in western Uttar Pradesh and the surrounding NCR region could drop by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius over the next five days. In addition, temperatures in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Rajasthan may fall by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius until January 1. The department further mentioned that in the next 24 hours, temperatures in central India, including Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, are expected to drop by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius. Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Karnataka may see a drop of 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next five days.
An orange alert has been issued for Delhi NCR and surrounding areas due to bad weather. The Meteorological Department reported heavy snowfall in Jammu & Kashmir, Muzaffarabad, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh in the last 24 hours. Additionally, light rain and snowfall were recorded in some areas of Uttarakhand. Winds from the mountains have caused a drop in temperatures in the plains.
The Meteorological Department has released a weather forecast for Delhi NCR, stating that there will be no rain in Delhi for now. However, dense fog may persist across the city, and visibility could be significantly reduced, especially in the morning. The department also indicated that a cold wave is expected to affect northern India starting today. On Sunday, Delhi’s minimum temperature dropped below 9°C, and in the coming days, temperatures may fall further by 4 to 6°C.
