Mohali, December 22, 2024 (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau): The death toll in the Mohali building collapse reached two on Sunday as the body of a man was pulled out of the debris.
Mohali SDM Damandeep Kaur confirmed the development.
The deceased has been identified as Abhishek Dhanwal of Ambala. Locals said despite being warned against it, the man had rushed into the building to retrieve his phone and was buried under it.
NDRF and Army personnel began the rescue operation on the second day on Sunday.
According to NDRF officials, five people were buried under the debris when the four-storey building collapsed on Saturday owing to the digging work being undertaken in an adjacent building’s basement.
A 20-year-old woman from Himachal Pradesh had succumbed to her injuries on Saturday.
Police have booked the two building owners.
