Ludhiana, December 13, 2024 (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau) – Due to the massive fire in the power house located in Tajpur, the Power Com department is likely to suffer a financial loss of more than Rs 7 crore. Considering the seriousness of the matter, Director Punjab State Power Corporation DPS Grewal, while inspecting the spot, has directed the officers and employees of the Power Com department to work on a war footing so that the power supply system can be started in the area as soon as possible. Due to the fire in the grid of the power house, the power supply system of 15,000 domestic and 1000 industrial houses in various colonies of the East area has come to a standstill. Keeping this in mind, Director Power Com Department DPS Grewal has stressed upon the officers and employees to work day and night to ensure power supply in the area so that no family or business class is deprived of basic facilities like electricity and water.
According to the information, more than 100 employees and about 10 ex-officers and SDOs of the power com department are present to repair the feeders and lines in the power house with immediate effect. They are being led by Chief Engineer of the power com department Jagdev Singh Hans and Deputy Chief Engineer East Circle Surjit Singh. On this occasion, Engineer Punardeep Singh Barard of Protection and Management of the power com department also reached the spot. According to the data released by the electricity department, on the evening of 11 December, around 5:15 pm, due to sparks of fire from the 66 KV sub-station power transformer located at Tajpur Road, the number one 31.5 MVA transformer installed at the spot got engulfed in terrible flames and within no time the fire reached the other 31.5 MVA capacity transformer installed nearby. Due to this, both the transformers got badly burnt and a blackout situation was created in most of the areas. Officials have claimed that various teams of the power com department reached the spot soon after the fire broke out and took charge late in the evening and passed through the area late at night and by putting load on other feeders, power supply was started in most areas. Officials have claimed that power supply has been temporarily restored in most of the domestic areas, while it may take some more time to start normal power supply in industrial houses and other remaining areas.
Even after 14 hours of the accident, sparks of fire kept smoldering and smoke kept rising.
When the team of ‘Punjab Kesari’ visited the spot, it was seen that even after about 14 hours of the accident, sparks of fire kept smoldering and smoke kept rising from the electric transformer and other equipment.
