Jalandhar, December 2, 2024 (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau) – : The new building of Jalandhar Cant Railway Station will be dedicated to the public by the first quarter of 2025. After touring the ongoing project, Railway and Food Processing Industry Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu informed that officials have been instructed to complete the work on time and with high standards. The work to transform Jalandhar Cant Railway Station into a world-class station is progressing in full swing.
Currently, approximately 7,400 passengers use Jalandhar Cant Railway Station daily, with around 141 trains passing through, including two Humsafar and one Vande Bharat train. As of October 2024, the average daily revenue from passenger services is ₹16.30 lakh, and ₹0.51 lakh from parcel services.
With an investment of ₹99 crore, once completed, the station will have separate facilities for passengers to arrive and depart. The station will feature world-class facilities, iconic building designs with cultural artworks, integration of both sides of the city, enhanced natural ventilation and lighting, and green building standards. The station will include modern amenities such as retail shops, a cafeteria, entertainment facilities, a large gathering space, 10 lifts, 9 escalators, convenient parking, pick-and-drop services, and signage and digital displays for travel information.
Emphasizing passenger safety, Ravneet Singh Bittu announced that an automatic block signaling system costing ₹71.25 crore has been approved for the Ludhiana-Jalandhar section, and tenders for it have already been issued. Additionally, a proposal to install “Kavach” (an automatic train protection system) over 1,513 kilometers in the Ferozepur division has begun. This system will be installed on several key railway sections across Punjab.
The “Kavach” system, developed domestically, is an automatic train protection system designed to prevent train accidents by ensuring safety against signal passing at danger, excessive speed, and collisions.
In addition, Ravneet Singh shared details about ongoing works in the Ferozepur division, stating that 12 railway stations in Punjab are being redeveloped under the “Amrit Bharat Station” initiative at an investment of ₹270 crore. The stations include Dhandari Kalan, Phillaur, Fattuwal, Kotkapura, Muktasar, Ferozepur Cantt, Fazilka, Moga, Hoshiarpur, Kapoorthala, Gurdaspur, and Pathankot.
