Punjab November 29, 2024 (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau) – Punjab Haryana High Court has given a big blow to the pensioners of Punjab. The High Court has rejected about 800 petitions challenging the recovery of commuted pension. This amount is recovered up to 15 years after retirement. The petition states that there is a provision to charge 8 percent interest on this amount, but the government is charging interest arbitrarily. The petitioner said that the amount taken as loan is deducted from the pension received every month.
The government collects this amount by charging interest according to a formula. By doing this, the government is deducting this amount from the pension for 15 years, which is completely wrong. The petitioner said that the government should not be given the right to collect interest in such an arbitrary manner. In the petitions, an appeal was made to the High Court to stop the recovery of additional amount.
The High Court said that the court’s interference in such cases is not right. In this case, the petitioners failed to prove that any injustice has been done to them. The petitioners said that this deduction should be completed in 11 and a half years. With these comments, the High Court dismissed the petitions.
