Srinagar November 29, 2024 (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau) – Cyber ​​police of Kashmir today achieved major success and solved a case of digital fraud. The police arrested 3 accused and recovered 4.13 lakh rupees from them. Out of these three accused, 2 are from Patiala in Punjab and one is from UP.

According to the information received, Cyber ​​Police has arrested 3 accused while solving the case of digital fraud of 21 lakh rupees today. Addressing a press conference here, SSP Srinagar said that the scam came to light when an elderly man from Srinagar lodged a complaint that those who had cheated him with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and Impersonating Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials is a tax fraud.

The SSP said that the fraudsters accused the victim of being involved in a fake money laundering case of Rs 6.8 crore. To intimidate him, he issued a bogus arrest warrant and warrant, declared the conversation a “national secret” and instructed the victim to lock up his house and avoid any contact with others. Under this pressure, the victim closed his fixed deposit prematurely and transferred Rs 21 lakh to a bogus HDFC Bank account, falsely assuring that the amount would be returned within hours.”

A FIR under FIR No. 26/2024 was registered and the police launched a detailed investigation using advanced technological equipment. The SSP said, teams were sent to Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Punjab, after which Gaurav Kumar from Shamli (UP), Gurpreet Singh from Patiala (Punjab) and Ujjwal Chauhan from Patiala were arrested. He said that during the operation, the police seized 4 mobile phones, one MacBook, 13 SIM cards, 24 debit cards, 20 check books, 10 passbooks and other objectionable materials. An amount of Rs.4.13 lakhs has already been refunded to the complainant’s account. SSP Srinagar said that further investigation is on to trace other conspirators and eliminate the big network behind this scam.

Police have issued a public advisory urging citizens to exercise caution when sharing sensitive financial information and warn them not to fall prey to such schemes. Legitimate government agencies will never demand payment, screen phone calls or request sensitive data online, the SSP said. Citizens are advised to verify the authenticity of such claims and report suspicious activities immediately to the nearest cyber police station or helpline.
