Delhi November 28, 2024 (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau)- Efforts have begun to lay a new railway line from Delhi to Jammu to reduce the traffic load on the existing railway lines and to increase the speed of trains. The survey work for the new railway line has also started.
According to railway sources, two railway lines will be laid from Delhi to Ambala, and one line will be laid from Ambala to Jammu. However, the railway authorities have not officially confirmed this yet. The New Delhi-Jammu route is a busy travel corridor, with over 50 trains running daily between New Delhi and Ambala, and more than 20 trains running daily between Ambala and Jammu. It is believed that the new railway line will be laid near the existing tracks so that train operations are not disrupted, and passengers can board or alight from trains at the current railway stations.
Currently, due to the limited two tracks on this route, the speed of passenger trains is affected. Trains are forced to stop on the route, and other trains have to be diverted, causing delays.
Three railway divisions have been assigned the responsibility of overseeing the survey for the new Delhi-Jammu railway line. This survey is being conducted by a private company. The Delhi division is responsible for the 200 km rail section from Delhi to Ambala, the Ambala division for the 200 km section from Ambala Cantt to Jalandhar, and the Firozpur division for the section from Jalandhar to Jammu.
Currently, the two tracks on this route are causing significant problems. To allow one train to pass, the other has to stop on the outer track for a long time, which wastes time and increases travel time for passengers. The survey report will be sent to the Railway Board, which will decide on the project. The survey is looking into where the line can be laid, where bridges may be needed, and where land acquisition will be required.
