New Delhi: Quick commerce is a rapidly growing sector in India, currently valued at ₹57,701 crore. Blinkit, Zepto, and Swiggy Instamart are the leading players in this segment. However, the coming days are expected to be challenging for these companies as e-commerce giant Amazon India is gearing up to enter the space.
The company plans to launch its quick commerce service “Tez” by the end of this year or early next year. Amazon India is reportedly preparing for the launch by hiring staff, setting up dark stores, stocking units (SKUs), and building a fast delivery network.
Amazon’s Entry at a Competitive Time
Amazon’s entry comes at a time when Flipkart has already launched its “Minutes” service during the festive season, BigBasket recorded ₹900 crore in sales in October, and Tata Digital launched its “Neu Flash” service. Initially, Amazon India had planned to roll out its quick commerce service in the first quarter of 2025. However, the company has now decided to launch it sooner.
Launch Date to Be Finalized Next Month
According to a report by The Economic Times, Amazon will finalize the launch date for its “Tez” service next month. The company is expected to confirm details during its December review meeting, with its annual event “Sambhav” scheduled for December 9-10. Amazon has described “Tez” as a “groundbreaking initiative for the emerging e-commerce sector.” The company has already begun hiring for the project and is working on setting up dark stores, SKUs, and a fast delivery network.
Immense Potential in Quick Commerce
A report by Morgan Stanley suggests that by 2026, quick commerce could surpass the food delivery market. The market is projected to grow to $25–55 billion by 2030. Amazon’s strong delivery network and logistics partnerships are expected to play a critical role in the success of “Tez”. The company’s goal is to quickly establish a foothold in this high-growth market.
It will be fascinating to see how Amazon competes with established players like Blinkit and Zepto in the quick commerce space.
