Popular Bengali actor Manoj Mitra is no more among us. He breathed his last at 8:50 am on Tuesday at a hospital in Kolkata. He was 85 years old. The famous playwright was suffering from age-related health problems for many years. The news of his death was given by his brother and famous writer Amar Mitra. Mitra is known for his contribution to Bengali theatre. The legacy of his impressive works left a deep mark in the hearts of the people of the state.

In the month of September, he was admitted to the hospital due to age-related problems and his health was said to be very critical. It was said that the 85-year-old actor was also suffering from sodium-potassium imbalance and other health problems. 

Manoj Mitra, known for his brilliant acting in films like Tapan Sinha’s ‘Bancharamar Bagan’, has also acted in legendary director Satyajit Ray’s classic films ‘Ghare Baire’ and ‘Ganashatru’. He has also acted in films of legendary directors Buddhadeb Dasgupta, Basu Chatterjee, Tarun Majumdar, Shakti Samanta and Gautam Ghosh. Apart from this, he has also written more than 100 plays. Apart from many awards, Manoj Mitra also received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Best Playwright in the year 1985.
