Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan vowed to continue to eliminate terrorist threats at their source.
“Whether it is inside or outside our borders, no one can stop us from eliminating any threat we detect against our country,” Erdogan said at a ceremony to hand over T625 Gokbay helicopters to the gendarmerie on Tuesday. .
The handover ceremony was held at the Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAS) headquarters in the Kahramankazan district of Ankara, where two attackers carried out a terrorist attack last week that killed five people and injured 22 others. .
Turkish authorities have blamed the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) for the attack and have stepped up domestic and cross-border security operations against the group.
TUSAS is a leading defense and aviation company in Turkey. It produces the country’s first national fighter jet, the KAAN, among other defense equipment, the news agency said.
At the ceremony, Erdogan reiterated that terrorism has no place in the future of Turkey and the region, saying attacks like the one against TUSAS can never break the country’s resolve to fight terrorism.
The PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union, has been waging an insurgency against the Turkish government for more than three decades.
