Doctors will be on call 24/7 in government hospitals of Punjab on Diwali. Special arrangements have been made in the emergency rooms of hospitals in all districts for those injured in fireworks and other accidents. Adequate stock of medicines used in emergency has been kept in the hospitals. Doctors of burns, skin and plastic surgery have been specially deployed in the emergency for those who suffer eye injuries and burns due to firecrackers.
Punjab Health Services Director has issued special instructions to hospital officials of all districts to remain alert. In the orders issued by the Health Department, it has been said to take everything seriously from stock of medicines to reservation of patient beds and deployment of doctors so that patients can get immediate and timely treatment. Specialists in all hospitals have been ordered to be ready for Diwali. No one is allowed to go out of the city. Specialists will be present in all hospitals. On Diwali, there are more incidents of road accidents, burns and eye injuries as compared to normal days. People also fight after consuming drugs and road accidents are also more as compared to other days. In such a situation, ambulances will also be on alert.
Doctors Association issued advisory
On the other hand, Punjab Civil Medical Service Association also issued a special advisory in view of Diwali festival. Association President Dr. Akhil Sarin suggested to be cautious during fireworks and prevent accidents and said that celebrate Green Diwali. On this festival of lights, light lamps, do Puja, eat sweets but do not burst crackers. Celebrate Eco-friendly Diwali. Dr. Sarin said that special arrangements have been made on the day of the festival. I.C.U. and Trauma Ward have also been prepared. Department consultants have also been kept on alert for on-call duty in case of emergency. Doctors issued an advisory and said that while bursting loud crackers, put cotton in the ears and people with respiratory problems should stay inside the house. In case of burns, pour water immediately and consult a doctor. Protect your eyes with glasses while bursting crackers.
Weather is not conducive for crackers, winds will remain locked, avoid crackers
Chandigarh Meteorological Department Director Surendra Pal says that the weather is not conducive for crackers on Diwali. Due to the anti-cyclone in North India, the winds will remain locked, due to which the amount of pollution in the air will increase. People with respiratory problems should keep themselves away from crackers. Keep in mind that last year, a day after Diwali, the Air Quality Index was found in the very poor category in many districts of Punjab. Before Diwali, the average air quality in Punjab was in the satisfactory and moderate category, whereas the data says that after Diwali, the Air Quality Index was recorded at 347 in Bathinda, 257 in Amritsar, 262 in Jalandhar, 268 in Ludhiana, 240 in Patiala, 132 in Rupnagar. This was the situation when the Punjab authorities had allowed burning of only green crackers. However, on the day of Diwali, the air quality was comparatively better at 4 pm.
