At least eight passengers were killed when a vehicle carrying them fell into a river from a wooden bridge in Afghanistan’s Uruzgan province, provincial officials said on Monday.
The accident occurred at 3:00 a.m. (local time) on Monday when a wooden bridge collapsed due to heavy weight on the outskirts of Ghaizab district of the province, provincial director of information and culture Agha Wali Qureshi.
According to the report of the news agency, the dilapidated condition of the bridge, overloading and careless driving are the main reasons for this fatal accident.
Road accidents are common in the mountainous Central Asian country, often due to poor driving, lack of safety measures for passengers on congested roads, challenging terrain and old vehicles.
Earlier on October 5, 2024, at least 7 people, including women and children, died when a passenger car fell into a ravine in Nuristan province of Afghanistan.
The incident took place after it fell down a road and fell into a gorge in the Doab district of the state, in which 7 passengers died on the spot and 8 others were injured.
