In the nearby village Lahil Khurd, a man strangled his wife to death. City in-charge Raghubir Singh said that the deceased woman’s brother Jagtar Singh Rampuraful told the police in a written statement that his sister Paramjit Kaur was married 24 years ago to Pragat Singh, son of Ghota Singh of village Lahil Khurd, Pragat Singh was addicted to drinking and used to beat his sister.
She tried to explain many times but he used to say in anger that he did not find his sister Paramjeet Kaur beautiful and that he would kill her and marry someone else. A few days ago, his younger sister received a call from her sister that her husband beats her a lot and she should come and take her away. Then he went to take her away. When he reached his sister’s house, he saw that Pragat Singh was strangling his sister Paramjeet Kaur in the cattle shed by putting a ‘sara’ around her neck. When he rushed there, he saw that Paramjeet Kaur had died and Pragat Singh had fled with the ‘sara’. The police registered a case and after postmortem, handed over the body to the heirs.
