19 october 2024 : The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) approved a ₹1,255.59 crore project on Thursday, October 17, for the construction of the 28.9-km, four-lane, access-controlled Northern Patiala Bypass in Punjab.
In a post on X, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari announced that the project is designed to ease traffic congestion in Patiala, enhance regional connectivity, and streamline the movement of goods and logistics.
“We have sanctioned ₹1,255.59 crore for a 4-lane access-controlled Northern Patiala Bypass, stretching 28.9 km,” Gadkari said.
He further explained that this new bypass will complete Patiala’s ring road, significantly reducing the city’s traffic. It will also improve connectivity in the region and ensure smoother logistics operations, providing a significant boost to local infrastructure and the economy.
Gadkari emphasized that the project is set to greatly enhance the region’s infrastructure and economic growth.
