7 october 2024 : Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal stated on Sunday that malls should adopt a “more humane” approach towards delivery partners, sharing his personal experience as a delivery executive handling orders for the food tech company.
Goyal, along with his wife Grecia Munoz—who goes by Gia Goyal on Instagram—recently took on the role of delivery partners in Gurugram to better understand the challenges they face.
In a social media post, he mentioned, “During my second order, I realized we need to collaborate more closely with malls to enhance the working conditions for delivery partners. Malls also need to be more considerate towards them. What do you think?” He included a video with his post that detailed his experience.
He recounted visiting Ambience Mall in Gurugram to pick up an order from Haldiram’s, only to be directed to an alternate entrance and asked to take the stairs. Goyal noted that there were no elevators available for delivery partners.
After climbing three flights of stairs, he discovered that delivery partners were not allowed inside the mall and had to wait on the stairs for orders. He mentioned, “I chatted with my fellow delivery partners and gathered valuable feedback,” and added that he managed to sneak in to collect the order when the staircase guard took a brief break.
