3 october 2024 : “Joker 2 Opens at ₹5 Crore on Day 1 in India”
Todd Phillips’ musical sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux, featuring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, debuted in Indian cinemas on Gandhi Jayanti, two days ahead of its global release on October 4. According to Sacnilk, the film garnered ₹5 crore on its opening day at the Indian box office.
Taking advantage of the mid-week holiday and facing little competition from new Bollywood releases, Joker 2 achieved a respectable start with ₹5 crore. Although it may experience a slight decline on Thursday due to mixed reviews and a regular workday, a rebound is anticipated on Friday and over the weekend, as there are no significant domestic releases to compete with. The film is mainly up against Stree 2, a popular horror-comedy, and Devara: Part 1, a Telugu action film from the previous week.
Joker 2 is expected to make a strong impact at the global box office when it releases in North America and other markets on October 4. The first installment, Joker, directed by Todd Phillips, became the highest-grossing R-rated Hollywood film, earning over $1 billion worldwide, until its record was recently surpassed by Deadpool & Wolverine.
The sequel continues the story of Arthur Fleck, portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, who spirals into chaos after feeling marginalized by society. Lady Gaga joins the cast as Harley Quinn, offering him love and a new purpose. Zazie Beetz also returns in a cameo as Sophia from the first film.
