October 1, 2024: Former captain of the Portugal national football team, Cristiano Ronaldo, has set a world record by scoring his 900th goal in international and professional football. Just two days later, Ronaldo netted his 901st goal in a Nations League tournament match against Scotland. This achievement breaks his previous record of 800 goals, which he also held. Following Ronaldo, Argentina’s captain, Lionel Messi, is the second player in world football to reach the milestone of 800 goals.
Ronaldo scored his historic 900th goal against Croatia while playing for the Portuguese team in the tournament. He is the first footballer in the world to reach this landmark, having previously achieved the milestone of 800 goals in global football. Before Ronaldo’s 800 goals, the record was held by Brazil’s legendary player Pelé, who scored 762 goals in international football. After Ronaldo, the Argentine soccer team’s 37-year-old captain, Lionel Messi, became the second player to surpass the 800-goal barrier, achieving an impressive total of 840 goals.

Ronaldo, who has scored a record 132 goals in international football, has 769 goals recorded in professional club football. Before Ronaldo, Pelé was the top-ranked player for goals scored in international football, known as the “Black Pearl.” Ronaldo, however, leads in goals scored in club football. His scoring record includes 450 goals for the Spanish club Real Madrid, 145 goals for England’s Manchester United FC, and 101 goals for Italy’s Juventus.
