1 october 2024 : A BJP leader in Madhya Pradesh has sparked controversy by suggesting that Garba event organisers require attendees to sip ‘gaumutra’ (cow urine) before entering the pandal. Chintu Verma, the president of the BJP’s Indore unit, claimed this measure would ensure that only Hindus participate in the Navratri festivities. The Congress party criticized this demand, labeling it a tactic for polarisation ahead of upcoming assembly elections in Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, and Maharashtra

Meanwhile, as Jammu and Kashmir approaches the third phase of assembly voting, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge urged voters to deliver a message to those who have undermined their statehood. This final phase includes 40 assembly seats, with over 39 lakh registered voters. Voting began at 7 am and will conclude at 7 pm, determining the fate of 415 candidates.
