24 september 2024 During his third meeting this year with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude for India’s “clear support” of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. In a post on X, Zelenskyy noted that their discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in various fields and increasing interaction on international platforms, particularly at the UN and G20. He also highlighted the importance of implementing the Peace Formula and preparing for a second Peace Summit.

The two leaders met in New York during the United Nations’ Summit of the Future event before Modi concluded his three-day visit to the US. Modi reiterated India’s commitment to a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict and expressed a willingness to support efforts toward restoring peace and stability. He emphasized India’s consistent approach of promoting diplomacy and dialogue among all stakeholders involved in the conflict.

Following the meeting, Vikram Misri, Foreign Secretary, remarked that Modi’s discussions with Zelenskyy reflect a commitment to finding a resolution to the conflict. He highlighted that India has always advocated for peace through dialogue and diplomacy, particularly considering the broader global implications of the ongoing conflict.

Modi’s previous engagements included a visit to Kyiv last month and discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin in July. Misri noted that both sides recognized positive momentum in their bilateral relationship and agreed to maintain close communication, either directly or through exchanges at various levels.

Zelenskyy appreciated India’s attention to these issues and thanked Modi for his efforts in facilitating peace. The 45-minute meeting was the last bilateral engagement for Modi that day.
