17 september 2024 : Seven candidates are in the running to succeed Thomas Bach as the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The IOC announced today the list of these seven candidates who will contest the elections scheduled for March. The candidates include:
- Kristy Coventry of Zimbabwe, a female member of the IOC Executive Board
- British runner Sebastian Coe
- Kristy Coventry, a two-time Olympic swimming silver medalist
- Prince Faisal al-Hussein of Jordan
- Juan Antonio Samaranch Jr., one of the four IOC Vice Presidents from Spain
- David Lappartient, President of the International Cycling Union
- Morinari Watanabe, President of the International Gymnastics Federation
- John Elliott, President of the Snowboard Federation
