5 september 2024 : Singapore and India have upgraded their relationship to a “comprehensive strategic partnership,” signing four Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) during a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Singaporean counterpart Lawrence Wong on Thursday.

Modi described Singapore as an inspiration for developing countries and highlighted the new partnership as a significant milestone. According to MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, the leaders discussed enhancing cooperation in areas like Advanced Manufacturing, Connectivity, Digitalization, Healthcare, Skills Development, and Sustainability.

Modi praised Wong for his warm welcome and congratulated him on his new role as premier. He expressed enthusiasm about creating “many Singapores” in India and welcomed the formation of a ministerial roundtable as a groundbreaking initiative.
