September 4, 2024: The wedding anniversary (Viah Purab) of Jagat Guru Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Mata Sulakhni Ji is being celebrated on September 10 in Batala with the support of devotees from across the country and abroad under the management of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), Sri Amritsar Sahib. The site of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s wedding, Gurdwara Sri Dera Sahib, and the resting place of the wedding procession, Gurdwara Sri Kandh Sahib, have begun to see a large influx of devotees.
Every day, a large number of devotees are paying their respects at these holy places. SGPC members Jathedar Gurnam Singh Jassal, Jathedar Gurinderpal Singh Gora, Manager Sukhjinder Singh Bhaam, and Manager Manjeet Singh Jaffarwal are making preparations for the event on a grand scale with the support of the entire congregation. Gurdwara Sri Kandh Sahib and Gurdwara Dera Sahib are being beautifully decorated.
On September 9, the devotees are being encouraged to decorate the routes leading to the Nagar Kirtan arriving from Gurdwara Sahib Sultanpur Lodhi with beautiful gates. On September 10, a grand Nagar Kirtan will be organized in Batala under the divine guidance of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, with preparations underway by both the congregation and the administration giving final touches to the city’s arrangements.
Women Prepare Prasad
In relation to the Viah Purab, women at Gurdwara Sri Kandh Sahib have prepared prasad (offering) of “Gunian” and “Matthiyan.” Manager Sukhjinder Singh Bhaam mentioned that while the women are conducting daily satsang, they have also prepared prasad, which will be distributed among the devotees.
Street Lights Restored in the City
The issue of non-functioning streetlights in the roads and streets of Batala was raised strongly by Punjabi Jagran, following which the Municipal Corporation of Batala has begun patchwork on the roads and also started working to restore the non-functioning streetlights in the city. The employees of the Municipal Corporation have restored the streetlights on Amritsar Road in Batala.
