27 august 2024 : IPS officer Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, who played a pivotal role in the investigation of the Sidhu Moosewala murder case, has been appointed as the Director General of Police for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. He officially took charge on Tuesday, coinciding with his birthday.

Originating from Zafarnama village in Moga, Dhaliwal previously solved the high-profile murder case of international kabaddi player Sandeep Nangal Ambian, leading to the apprehension of the gang responsible for the shooting.

Under Dhaliwal’s leadership, police teams from Delhi successfully located and arrested three of the six shooters involved in the Moosewala case: Priyavrat Fauji, Ankit Sersa, and Kashish. Additionally, the Delhi Police played a significant role in capturing the fourth shooter, Deepak Mundi, near the Nepal border, who was subsequently arrested by the Punjab Police.

Another notable accomplishment of Dhaliwal in recent times was the dismantling of an extortion ring operated by gangster Deepak Boxer, who was extradited from Mexico. He has also served as the Superintendent of Police (Operations) in Chandigarh.
