27 august 2024 : In the wake of intense public outcry regarding the rape and murder of a physician in Kolkata, a 20-year-old nursing student has reportedly been raped in the Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra. The survivor was discovered injured and is currently receiving medical care.
This incident has sparked protests among the nursing community in the city, with both civilians and hospital personnel obstructing traffic in various areas of Ratnagiri, as reported by India Today. Authorities have promised to take action against the perpetrator and have urged demonstrators to remain calm.
The nursing student was returning home from college in an auto-rickshaw when the driver allegedly offered her water laced with sedatives. After losing consciousness, she was taken to a remote location where the assault reportedly occurred, according to News18.
Upon regaining consciousness, she contacted her family for assistance.
Law enforcement is actively searching for the driver, and the survivor has been admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
This incident unfolds amidst widespread national indignation over the rape and murder of a doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
The physician had sought rest in the seminar hall of the hospital when the primary suspect, Sanjay Roy, a frequent visitor to the facility, allegedly assaulted and killed her.
Sanjay Roy was recently subjected to the lie-detector test where he reportedly confessed to the crime.
Per reports, hours before entering the hospital at 4.03 am, the accused had liquor with his friend. He also allegedly molested another woman in the street.
Sanjay Roy and his friend had also visited two red-light areas in Kolkata.
He also spoke to his girlfriend and demanded nude photos.
The CBI’s psychoanalysis revealed that the man had been addicted to pornography and was a pervert. An officer also described him as a man with animal instinct.
