22 august 2024 : BTS rapper Suga is currently the subject of a criminal investigation related to a drunk driving incident. Reports have surfaced indicating that he is expected to be summoned by the Seoul police for questioning on Thursday. However, according to Korea JoongAng, the agency representing BTS, HYBE, has released a statement refuting these claims.
Regarding Suga’s situation, a representative from HYBE stated, “The information regarding the summoning schedule is incorrect, and he will not be appearing today.” The representative did not provide confirmation regarding any future summoning dates. Various reports on Wednesday evening suggested that Suga would meet with the police on Thursday but would refrain from responding to inquiries from the media.
The circumstances surrounding Suga’s involvement in the drunk driving case date back to August 6, when he was investigated for operating an electric scooter after consuming alcohol in the Yongsan District of Seoul. This incident occurred on the same day, leading to his booking and questioning at the Yongsan Police Station for alleged violations of the Road Traffic Act.
A breathalyzer test indicated that Suga’s blood alcohol concentration exceeded the threshold for license suspension, which is set at 0.08 percent or higher, as reported by the police. He was released following the completion of the police investigation.
In the aftermath, Suga expressed his sincere apologies to the BTS ARMY. He acknowledged that the police had imposed a fine and revoked his driving privileges as a result of the incident. Suga, whose birth name is Min Yoongi, conveyed his remorse on Weverse, stating, “It is with a very heavy and apologetic heart that I have to come to you with such disappointment. After drinking at dinner last night, I rode home on an electric kickboard. I violated road traffic laws without realizing that I was not allowed to use an electric kickboard while drunk due to the simple thought that it was a short distance away.”
While I was preparing my electric scooter at the entrance of my residence, I experienced a fall. A nearby police officer conducted a breathalyser test, which resulted in the revocation of my driving license and a monetary fine. Although there were no injuries or damages to property during this incident, I express my sincere apologies to all affected, acknowledging my responsibility in this matter, with no justification for my actions.
