21 august 2024 : Actor-director Rishab Shetty has faced backlash from the online community following his remarks about Bollywood, which he claims portrays Indian cinema in a negative manner on a global scale. In a recent interview with MetroSaga, Rishab expressed his commitment to showcasing his “nation, state, and language” in a favorable light.
Regarding Bollywood films, Rishab was quoted by the Times of India while speaking in Kannada to MetroSaga, stating, “Indian cinema, especially Bollywood, frequently depicts India in an unfavorable manner. These so-called artistic films are often highlighted at international festivals and gain undue recognition. My pride lies in my nation, my state, and my language, and I am dedicated to presenting them positively to the world.”
In response to Rishab’s comments, a post on Reddit featured the caption, “Meanwhile Rishabh Shetty in his own film.” The post included a clip from his film Kantara, showcasing a scene where he pinches co-star Sapthami Gowda’s waist. One user remarked, “There is also another scene where he was peeking while she was bathing. It was quite uncomfortable to watch; while the film was excellent, the normalization of sexual harassment in Indian cinema is concerning.”
