21 august 2024 : The Central Bureau of Investigation is considering administering a polygraph test to Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. This decision arises from the agency’s discovery of “discrepancies” in some of his responses during previous interrogations, as stated by a CBI official.
Earlier this month, a tragic incident occurred when a 31-year-old trainee doctor was raped and murdered in the seminar room of the hospital, where she had sought refuge during her demanding 36-hour shift. The Kolkata police apprehended a civic volunteer named Sanjoy Roy in connection with the heinous crime after his Bluetooth headphones were located near the victim’s body.
The CBI has been questioning Dr. Ghosh, who resigned two days following the incident, to ascertain whether the murder was part of a larger conspiracy.
Reports indicate that the CBI inquired about Ghosh’s initial reaction upon learning of the murder and questioned him regarding the three-hour delay in notifying the victim’s parents about their daughter’s death.
The agency informed PTI that it aims to corroborate Dr. Ghosh’s statements through the polygraph examination.
“We seek to further validate Ghosh’s responses, as inconsistencies have been noted in some of his answers to our inquiries. Consequently, we are contemplating the possibility of conducting a polygraph test on him,” the official remarked.
Additionally, the agency has requested the name of the individual Dr. Ghosh contacted after receiving news of the murder.
He has also been interrogated regarding the authorization for renovations of rooms adjacent to the seminar hall where the body was found.
Recently, the agency secured permission from a local court to subject Sanjoy Roy to a polygraph test.
Dr. Ghosh’s questioning commenced after the Calcutta High Court remarked that he should have been the primary individual interrogated in this case.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday lambasted the West Bengal government over the delay in the registration of the FIR in the case, saying what Sandip Ghosh and the hospital administration were doing after they discovered the murder.
The court also noted that Ghosh had tried to pass off the murder as a suicide.
