19 august 2024 : Actor and politician Kangana Ranaut is currently engaged in promoting her forthcoming film, Emergency. In a recent discussion, she revealed her decision to reject endorsement offers amounting to crores from fairness cream brands and to turn down opportunities to collaborate with the Khans, as she preferred not to assume subordinate roles. Her objective is to demonstrate that a female actor’s career can flourish independently of the Khans.
In her conversation with Raj Shamani, Kangana stated, “I have declined offers ranging from Rs 10-15 crores due to their association with fairness creams, which I consider racist. This stance has been part of my principles from the outset, even prior to my success. I have also turned down film projects with the Khans. However, I want to clarify that all the Khans have treated me with kindness and respect. While I have encountered unprofessional behavior from others, the Khans have not been among them.”
She continued, “I chose not to work with them because their films typically feature heroines in minimal roles, often limited to two scenes and one song. My aspiration is to be recognized as an A-lister, a leading actor who has not collaborated with the Khans. I aim to pave the way for future women in the industry. No Khan, Kumar, or Kapoor can determine your success. I have also declined offers from Ranbir Kapoor and Akshay Kumar. I did not wish to conform to the notion that a hero is essential for success, as that is a misconception. I strive to set a precedent for women.”
At the recent trailer launch of Emergency, Kangana Ranaut expressed her desire to direct and produce films featuring all three Khans—Shah Rukh, Salman, and Aamir. She remarked, “I would be thrilled to direct and produce films that showcase the talents of all three Khans. I wish to highlight their abilities to act while also presenting them in a manner that is visually appealing and socially significant. I believe they possess immense talent and contribute significantly to the industry’s revenue, for which we should be eternally grateful. They connect with audiences who seek such entertainment, yet I also feel that their artistic potential remains largely untapped. I would love to explore that.”
Kangana’s film “Emergency” draws inspiration from the life of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. In addition to portraying the main character, Kangana has taken on the roles of director and co-producer for the project. The film is scheduled to premiere in theaters on September 6.
