14 august 2024 : A healthy heart typically exhibits a consistent rhythm; however, what occurs when the heartbeat transitions into a rapid three-beat sequence? This atypical occurrence, referred to as a galloping heart rhythm, may raise concerns, particularly among older individuals.
Dr. Mukesh Goel, Senior Consultant in Cardio-Thoracic Surgery at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, clarified that a normal heartbeat generates two distinct sounds. In contrast, a galloping rhythm alters this pattern by introducing an additional sound, resulting in a “thump-thump-thump” cadence. While this irregular rhythm can impact individuals across all age groups, its implications differ, he noted.
