14 august 2024 : The Court of Arbitration for Sport has postponed its decision regarding Vinesh Phogat’s request for a shared silver medal until August 16, marking yet another delay from the premier judicial authority in the realm of sports.
Phogat faced disqualification from the women’s 50 kg wrestling event on the second day of the competition due to exceeding the weight limit by 100 grams. This ruling has prompted scrutiny of the regulations set forth by United World Wrestling (UWW), as well as comments from its president Nenad Lalovic and International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach, both of whom affirmed that the regulations are designed to ensure athlete safety and supported the disqualification decision.
