14 august 2024 : Two months have elapsed since the conclusion of the IPL, and the domestic cricket season in India is imminent, with several notable players expected to participate in pre-season events such as the Buchi Babu Tournament, which will take place throughout Tamil Nadu. Among the twelve competing teams is Jammu and Kashmir; however, there is currently no indication of Umran Malik’s participation, the fast bowler who garnered attention for his impressive performances during the 2022 IPL.
“I would have been eager to compete in the tournament, but I am currently recovering from dengue,” Umran stated in an interview with The Indian Express from Jammu. He appeared in only one match during the last IPL and participated in just eight matches the previous season for Sunrisers Hyderabad, the franchise that brought him into the spotlight. It seems like a distant memory when Umran, with a dynamic run-up reminiscent of Waqar Younis, was celebrated as a national sensation, consistently reaching speeds of 150 km/h with ease.
