12 august 2024 : On August 12, 2024, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan unveiled the India Rankings across all categories. The NIRF ranking lists can be accessed on the official NIRF website, nirfindia.org. The announcement took place at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, with the presence of Minister of State for Education Sukanto Majumdar and other dignitaries.

The NIRF rankings have been published for 16 distinct categories, with the introduction of three new categories this year: state universities, skill universities, and open universities. The existing categories encompass universities, colleges, research institutions, engineering, management, pharmacy, medical, dental, law, architecture and planning, agriculture and allied sectors, and innovation.

IIT Madras has secured the top position in the overall category, followed by IISc Bengaluru in second place and IIT Bombay in third.

In the engineering category, IIT Madras again leads, with IIT Delhi in second and IIT Bombay in third.

For the medical category, AIIMS Delhi ranks first, followed by PGIMER, Chandigarh in second place, and Christian Medical College, Vellore in third.

A Core Committee established the methodology for ranking institutions, as mandated by the MHRD, to determine the broad parameters for evaluating various universities and institutions. The criteria for ranking include teaching, learning, and resources, research and professional practice, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity, and perception.
