07 august 2024 : On Friday evening, Czech tennis players Katerina Siniakova and Tomas Machac achieved victory in the mixed doubles event, earning the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, while playfully discussing their “top secret” relationship status with humor and warmth.
In a closely contested match, Siniakova and Machac triumphed over China’s Wang Xinyu and Zhang Zhizhen with scores of 6-2, 5-7, 10-8 in a match tiebreaker. Speculation regarding the nature of their relationship has been rampant on social media, with discussions suggesting they may no longer be together.
During a press conference following their victory, Machac expressed his exasperation, while Siniakova remarked, “That’s our personal life, so you don’t need to know that. We enjoy keeping you guessing.” Machac added, “This is a top secret.”
Siniakova has now achieved the remarkable feat of winning both tennis titles at the Summer Games for her nation, having previously claimed the women’s doubles title at the Tokyo Games alongside Barbora Krejcikova. A doubles specialist, Siniakova has amassed nine Grand Slam titles, seven of which were won with Krejcikova. Recently, she partnered with Coco Gauff to win the French Open and with Taylor Townsend to secure victory at Wimbledon.
“I have proven to myself that I can perform well with anyone,” Siniakova stated, “and I should take greater pride in my accomplishments.”
The bronze medal in mixed doubles was awarded to Canada’s Gabriela Dabrowski and Felix Auger-Aliassime, who defeated the Dutch duo of Demi Schuurs and Wesley Koolhof with scores of 6-3, 7-6.
Prior to the final, Siniakova playfully advised Machac, “Ace on the line and winner on the line.” She later emphasized the importance of teamwork, stating, “With a team, you are two, so it’s incredibly beneficial when you communicate and support one another.”
This two-part advice from Siniakova is applicable both on the court and in personal relationships
