Hoshiarpur, July 4 : To encourage crop diversification, registration is going on on the Agrimachinerypb.com portal by the Punjab Government for Kharif season maize to be sown during Kharif-2024 in Punjab. In this regard, Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal appealed to the farmers and said that the last date for seed purchase bills and inputs to get subsidy on maize seeds has been extended from 25 June 2024 to 10 July 2024. Subsidy at the rate of Rs 100 per kg or 50 percent of the purchase will be made available to the farmers through DBT on certified maize varieties from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. A farmer will be given subsidy on a maximum of 5 acres at the rate of 10 packets of seeds. Small and middle class farmers will be given priority for subsidy.
On this occasion, Chief Agriculture Officer Dr. Davinder Singh said that to get more yield of maize, it is recommended to sow maize on the ridges of the fields. According to him, maize crop is a good option for farmers to save the water level of the earth and to encourage crop diversity. There is a possibility of getting good price for maize crop this year to encourage maize. Farmers are appealed to get good price of maize, it should be sold in the market only after drying it and farmers of nearby villages should take full advantage of the maize dryer installed in village Fuglana for drying maize.
