June 13 (Punjab Khabarnama) : Punjab is going to witness electoral battle once again. The Election Commission has announced to hold the by-election for Jalandhar West assembly seat on July 10. The election result will be declared on July 13. Jalandhar West assembly seat was vacant after the resignation of MLA Sheetal Angural. Now Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has started his preparations for the Jalandhar West by-election on one hand and on the other hand Congress and BJP will also be seen gearing up for the by-election in the next few days.
As soon as the notification for the by-election of Jalandhar West assembly seat is issued, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, his cabinet colleagues, all MLAs and chairmen will camp in Jalandhar. All political parties have started looking for their candidates for Jalandhar West and the candidates will also be announced in the next few days. As soon as the candidates are announced, all the leaders will be assigned duties in Jalandhar West.
Jalandhar West assembly seat is important for all political parties. While on one hand Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann would like to boost the morale of party volunteers and leaders after the defeat in the Lok Sabha seat by winning the Jalandhar West seat, on the other hand Congress would try to win the by-election so that its dominance in the state politics remains.
On the other hand BJP would also like to win the by-election. If we look at the Lok Sabha election figures, Congress had gained a lead of about 2000 votes in Jalandhar West. BJP was in the second place and Aam Aadmi Party was in the third place. The Chief Minister will try his best to change these figures. After coming to power, Bhagwant Mann government will have to face the third by-election.
The first by-election was held for the Lok Sabha seat Sangrur and after that by-election was held for the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat. In this, AAP was defeated in Sangrur but it won the Jalandhar seat. After that in the Lok Sabha elections just concluded, Sangrur seat was won by Aam Aadmi Party while Jalandhar seat was won by Congress. Now the third by-election will be held for the assembly seat Jalandhar West. The result of the by-election will affect the politics of Punjab.
