June 13 (Punjab Khabarnama) : Notorious gangster Vijay Masih, who was absconding in a case of attempt to murder and has nearly two dozen cases of arms and drug smuggling registered against him, was arrested yesterday by Inspector Pushp Bali, in-charge of CIA Staff Jalandhar Rural, under the leadership of Police Captain Investigation Jasroop Kaur, from near Tehing Chungi. After absconding, the said gangster, along with his gang members, had created an atmosphere of terror in the city and nearby villages by threatening to kill people.

Giving information to journalists, SSP Jalandhar Rural Ankur Gupta said that notorious gangster Vijay Masih, son of Joji Masih, a resident of Mohalla Unchi Ghati of Phillaur, along with 10-12 companions of his gang, had fired bullets with an illegal pistol with the intention of killing Anish son of Mani one and a half months ago. On this, Phillaur Police had registered a case of attempt to murder against Vijay Masih and his companions. Since then, this gang was absconding.

He told that gangster Vijay increased the activities of his gang while absconding. To terrorize people, he used to threaten them with death. Two weeks ago, he had also threatened to kill two former councilors Ranjeet and Surinder Dabar. Complaints about the said gang were reaching him every day.

To control this gang and its leaders, a special team of Inspector Pushp Bali, in-charge of CIA Jalandhar, was formed under the leadership of IPS Jasbir Kaur Bath, Deputy Police Captain Investigation Lakhbir Singh, who was constantly following this gang to catch them. Inspector Bali got information that gangster Vijay was going to pass near Tehing Chungi. He laid a trap with his police party and caught Vijay Masih, who was produced in the court and taken on two-day remand.

Action will also be taken against those who gave shelter to Vijay Masih and were in contact with him.

S.S.P. Ankur Gupta said that gangster Vijay Masih was absconding for one and a half months. Strict action will be taken against those who gave him shelter and those who were in contact with him.

He became a big arms smuggler by selling intoxicant capsules and pills.

Police said that investigation so far has revealed that Vijay Masih and his father Joji Masih used to sell intoxicant pills and capsules initially. After that they started the business of illegal liquor smuggling. To earn more profit, Vijay started smuggling intoxicant powder and weapons and formed his own gang. It is also being investigated which gang Vijay was in contact with at present. Police had earlier also recovered a huge amount of gold jewellery and Rs. 22 lakh from Vijay’s house, which is being investigated by STF.
