June 10 (Punjab Khabarnama) : There has been a jump in the prices of potato and onion in the APMC market located in Vashi. Apart from this, the prices of tomatoes have also increased. The price of potato and onion has increased by 2 to 3 rupees per kg compared to last week. Traders have informed that the arrival in the market is currently decreasing and the price is increasing due to the storage of mostly good quality onions. The onion which was being sold at Rs 22-25 per kg in APMC has now become Rs 25-29.
Traders say that onion production has decreased this year. Along with this, onions are getting spoiled due to rising temperatures for the last few months. Due to heat, 10 to 20 percent of onions have got spoiled, due to which the arrival of onions in the market is decreasing. Only 68-70 vehicles have come to the market on Friday and Saturday. This has increased the price of onion by 2 to 3 rupees. Also, due to the rain in two days, there is a problem in taking out onions from the fields and loading the crop in the vehicle. Onion seller Bhausaheb Jagtap said that onion production is less this year, while good quality onions have been kept in storage.
Production reduced due to heat and water shortage
There is a huge decline in the supply of vegetables in Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai. The price of peas has increased about eight times in a week. At the same time, beans are being sold at eight times more price. According to traders, beans are being sold at Rs 160-170 in the wholesale market, while in the retail market it is Rs 250 to 280 per kg. Peas, cluster bean, ridge gourd have also crossed the hundred in the retail market. A pair of green coriander is also being sold for Rs 60. Due to severe heat and water shortage, vegetable production has reduced. Due to water shortage, vegetables have started drying in the fields. Also, production has also reduced. Due to this, the arrival of vegetables in Mumbai Agricultural Market Committee has started decreasing.
A week ago, beans were being sold in the market committee at Rs 20 to 24 per kg. Nenua, which was being sold for 20 to 24 rupees, is now being sold for 40 to 50 rupees per kg. Peas have increased from 34 to 40 rupees to 90-100 rupees per kg.
Prices of leafy vegetables have started increasing
Prices of leafy vegetables have also started increasing. Soya is being sold for 30 to 50 rupees in the market committee, while in the retail market it is being sold for 50 to 60 rupees per pair. The price of a pair of green coriander in the market has reached 15 to 50, while in the retail market the price of a pair is 60 rupees. Traders have predicted that prices in the market will keep increasing for the next few days.
