Chandigarh, June 6, 2024 – The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Thursday has apprehended Sukhwinder Singh, Lineman, posted at PSPCL office, Focal Point Batala, Gurdaspur district for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000.
Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned Lineman has been arrested on a complaint lodged by Balkar Singh, a resident of Faizpura, tehsil Batala.
He further informed that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that aforementioned Lineman had demanded Rs 5,000 in lieu of forwarding a favorable report for issuing a domestic electricity connection.
The spokesperson added after a preliminary enquiry into this complaint a trap was laid by VB and the said accused was caught red handed accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 in the presence of two official witnesses.
He informed that in this regard a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the accused at VB Police Station Amritsar Range. The accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and further investigation is under progress, he said.
