June 5 (Punjab Khabarnama) : Sher Singh Ghubaya, who contested the election for the second time on a Congress ticket, has given the Congress party a victory in the Ferozepur parliamentary seat after 40 years. Earlier in 1984, Gurdayal Singh Dhillon had won this seat while contesting from the Congress party. Finally, the Ferozepur seat came into the bag of the Congress party.
Independent candidate Bhai Dhyan Singh Mand in 1989, Mohan Singh Flianwala of BSP in 1992 and 1996, and Zora Singh Mann of Shiromani Akali Dal Badal in 1998, 1999 and 2004 kept winning this seat. After his death, Akali Dal Badal fielded Sher Singh Ghubaya in the 2009 and 2014 elections, who won both.
After Ghubaya joined the Congress party in the 2019 elections, the Akali Dal and BJP alliance fielded Sukhbir Singh Badal here and won a big victory. Now in 2024, the Congress once again trusted Sher Singh Ghubaya and fielded him in the election, in which despite a close contest, Ghubaya won the seat and gave the Congress party the joy of victory after 40 years.
