June 5 (Punjab Khabarnama) : A case has come to light in which Gurjeet Singh, a resident of village Langheyana Navan in Moga district, was duped of Rs 22 lakh 98 thousand by two real brothers travel agents on the pretext of sending him to America. After investigation, the police have registered a case against both the travel agents Gurpreet Singh and Lakhvir Singh, residents of Fatehpur Bagwa Jalandhar, under charges of fraud and alleged collusion at police station Baghapurana.
In this regard, Inspector Jasvirindar Singh, in-charge of police station Baghapurana, said that in the complaint letter given to the District Superintendent of Police Moga, Gurjeet Singh said that he works in agriculture. He had talked to one of his close friends, resident of Mahala Khurd, regarding going to America, who said that his relative Gurpreet Singh works as a travel agent, on which he got Gurpreet Singh to talk to him to go to America and on 27 January 2022, he went to his house along with his father Harjinder Singh, who talked to him and gave him Rs 7 lakh.
After this, on their demand, I gave them 22 lakh 98 thousand rupees in different ways and both the brothers had assured that they will soon send you to America within 15 days, if anyone else also wants to go to America, then let me know, on which they asked us to go to Delhi with the luggage on 28 January 2022, on which we were asked to reach Delhi.
On January 28, he reached village Mahala Khurd with 7 lakh rupees in cash, where he gave 7 lakh rupees to Lakhveer Singh after counting and he took 5 blank cheques from him in lieu of 17 lakh rupees and he sent us to Delhi, where there were 20-25 more boys in a hotel, who told them that the alleged travel agents have said about sending them to America. He stayed in the hotel for 15-20 days and he kept on luring us to send us to America from Dubai.
Later, they got him a Dubai visa and took him to Delhi airport with 6 boys, but during the test at the airport, he was declared Corona positive and sent back to the hotel and he stayed in Delhi and waited for 4-5 months. Eventually, they demanded Rs 15 lakh from him, on which his father Harjinder Singh and brother Jasvir Singh went to village Mahala Khurd and gave Rs 10 lakh in cash to the alleged travel agent.
After this, they gave him a 10-day visitor visa to Azerbaijan. When he went to Delhi airport, the immigration officials turned him back and in April 2023, Gurpreet Singh gave him a visitor visa to Oman and took more money and sent him to Oman, where he stayed in a hotel for a month. But they did not send me to America and started making false promises. He came back to India through Kisan Union by spending his own money and talked to the alleged travel agents, they gave him two cheques of Rs 2 lakh each, which bounced and said that they would give Rs 19 lakh later, but they did not return any money and also stopped picking up the phone.
He said that apart from getting Rs 22 lakh 98 thousand, the alleged travel agents stayed in different hotels and he spent about Rs 2.5 lakh on food and drinks. In this way, the travel agent brothers have cheated him by allegedly colluding. The District Superintendent of Police ordered an inquiry into this matter, which is being investigated by DSP. The investigation was done by Special Crime Branch Moga. After the investigation, the allegations of the complainant were found to be true and the above case was registered against the alleged travel agents in Baghapurana police station.
The investigating officer said that if any other person is involved in this case, action will be taken against him as well. The police station in-charge said that further investigation of this case is being done by Assistant Police Inspector Gurbindra Singh, arrest is pending.
