May 30 (Punjab Khabarnama) : In view of the elections, the Excise Department has issued orders to stop the sale of liquor from 6 pm on May 30. Due to this, there will be no sale of liquor in liquor shops, beer bars, restaurants and hotels for 48 hours. The officials will continue the checking process to strictly implement it.
Excise officials said that on the orders of the Election Commission, according to Section 54 of the Punjab Excise Act, the shops will be closed from 6 pm on May 30 and there will be a complete ban on the sale of liquor till 6 pm on June 1 (till the voting is over). The department has declared a dry day for these 48 hours. Similarly, the same rule will be applicable on the day of counting of votes on June 4 and liquor will not be available for the whole day. Excise officials said that to implement the orders of ban on the sale of liquor, the officials have been ordered to do continuous checking. Due to this, banners have been put up outside the shops, so that people buy liquor in advance. It was seen that due to the order of closing the shops, there was a bigger rush than usual at the shops. Due to the closure of shops, people were seen buying liquor as per their requirement so that they do not have to face any problem due to the closure of shops.
Strict action will be taken against those who open shops: Excise Officer
As per the ban on the sale of liquor, there will be a complete ban on opening liquor shops. Contractors will not be able to open shops due to any other reason. If any contractor opens a liquor shop, then appropriate action will be taken against him. Excise officers said that if anyone is found breaking the rules, then his shop can also be sealed.
