May 17 (Punjab Khabarnama) : The temperature is expected to reach 44 degrees in the next 5 days. Due to this, Chandigarh Meteorological Center has issued an alert. The department has issued an advisory that if it is not necessary then go out between 11 am to 4 pm for two days. Keep yourself as hydrated as possible. Although a slight increase was seen in the maximum temperature on Thursday, it remained the highest temperature so far in the month of May.
The maximum temperature was recorded at 41.9 degrees, which was 3 degrees more than normal. If the temperature goes up to 44 degrees or above in a few days, then it will be the first time since 2004 that the temperature in the month of May will be this much. The department has also given an alert for five days. Yellow alert has been given for Friday and orange alert for 18th and 19th. Whereas, last night’s temperature was recorded at 25 degrees. According to the Centre, the weather is currently dry in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh and heat wave conditions persist. Currently, an increase in day temperature was being seen, but in a few days the night temperature will also increase. Sirsa recorded a temperature of 47 degrees and Bathinda 44 degrees, which is the highest temperature so far. Similar situation prevails in Chandigarh also.
Symptoms and prevention of heat stroke
There are many symptoms of heat stroke, but caution should be taken when the body temperature goes above 40 degrees. The skin becomes red and dry. Severe headache, difficulty in breathing, muscle weakness or cramps and vomiting are common symptoms of heat stroke.
The temperature may remain like this in future
- The weather will be clear on Friday. The maximum temperature can be 43, while the minimum can be 26 degrees.
- The weather will remain clear on Saturday also. The maximum temperature can be 44, while the minimum can be 27 degrees.
- The weather will be clear on Sunday. The maximum temperature can be 44, while the minimum can be 28 degrees.
Stay hydrated – drink plenty of water
Avoid going out in the sun. Stay indoors during extreme heat (11 am to 4 pm). If you have to go out, wear light-coloured, loose-fitting clothes and cover your head with a cap, cloth or umbrella.
