Hoshiarpur, May 15 (Punjab Khabarnama) : The work of purchasing wheat is going on simultaneously in the district and till last evening, all the 306033 metric tonnes of wheat that reached the markets has been purchased. Giving this information, Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal said that direct payment of Rs 668.73 crore has been made to the accounts of farmers for the purchased crops. Deputy Commissioner said that instructions have been given to the officials to speed up the lifting work and so far 227251 metric tonnes of wheat has been lifted in the mandis, which is 78 percent in 72 hours. He said that currently Pangrain is leading in terms of procurement and so far 83312 metric tonnes of wheat has been purchased by it. Similarly, 70023 metric tons of wheat has been purchased by Markfed, 74829 by Pansup, 43265 by Punjab State Warehousing Corporation, 25394 by FCI and 9210 metric tons of wheat has been purchased by traders. The Deputy Commissioner said that every grain of wheat will be purchased in the mandis. He said that keeping in mind the convenience of the farmers, all concrete arrangements have been made in the mandis. Appealing to the farmers, he said that they should bring completely dry crops to the markets and the crops should not be harvested with combines at night. He appealed to the farmers to save the environment from getting polluted by not burning wheat remains and straw.
