DC directs teams to reach every eligible voter to achieve ‘Is Baar- 70 Paar’ by expediting awareness drive

Ludhiana, April 28 (Punjab khabarnama) : With the SVEEP teams making every effort to sensitize the voters round the clock in the district, Ludhiana has bagged second position in Punjab for its intensified SVEEP activities being conducted to ensure voter participation in the Lok Sabha elections.

As per results released by the Chief Election Office (CEO), Punjab on April 27, Amritsar has been ranked first followed by Ludhiana district on second and Patiala in third place for their activities from April 1 to 15. Hoshiarpur and Malerkotla districts have also got special mention for their unique initiatives.

District Election Officer Sakshi Sawhney said that every district had to mandatory submit a fortnightly report about various SVEEP activities to the CEO Punjab office. She said that under the SVEEP program maximum efforts were being made to apprise the people how to get enrolled as voter and then exercise their franchise to strengthen democracy at grass-root level. She said that democracy could be successful only if only the stakeholders especially the young voters participate in the poll process with full zeal and enthusiasm.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) and SVEEP Nodal officer Major Amit Sareen said that special camps were organized at youth festivals at PAU for awareness and enrollment of electors in the electoral roll from April 1 to 3.  A blood donation camp was organized on April 12 at district level in senior citizen home in which Nukkad Natak, Song, Quiz, folk dance were performed by students to motivate the voters to cast their votes on June 1.

Further, special camps were held with help of NGOs on the occasion Pavillion Mall for the awareness and enrollment of electors in the electoral rolls on April 14. Besides, 540 Electoral Literacy Clubs have been established in all high/senior secondary schools. 2919 Booth level awareness groups have been established in all polling stations in ludhiana district to encourage the young voters, PWD voters, Senior citizens and women to cast their votes and make the dream of 70+ voter turnout to become reality.
