April 26 (Punjab Khabarnama) : Congress has announced candidates for 8 out of 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana. This time the election contest in Sirsa Lok Sabha is going to be interesting. Congress has given ticket to Kumari Selja and BJP to Dr. Ashok Tanwar from Sirsa. The special thing is that both the candidates have been former state presidents of Congress and both of them started their political career from Congress.

Let us tell you that Kumari Selja had been MP from Sirsa Lok Sabha constituency in 1991 and 1996. After Dr. Sushil was defeated from Indora in the parliamentary elections held in 1998, Selja had moved to Ambala. Now Selja is back in Sirsa again. After 1996, she is now contesting the MP election from Sirsa in 2024. Kumari Selja’s father Chaudhary Dalbir Singh has been a veteran politician. He has been MP from Sirsa four times. After the formation of Haryana in 1966, he became MP from Sirsa Lok Sabha for the first time in the Lok Sabha elections held in 1967. After this, he also became MP in 1971, 1980 and 1984.

BJP candidate from Sirsa, Dr. Ashok Tanwar had contested the 2009 Lok Sabha elections from Sirsa Lok Sabha and won this seat by defeating his nearest rival Dr. Sita Ram of INLD by a margin of 35499 votes. In 2014, Dr. Ashok Tanwar lost this seat to INLD’s Charanjit Singh Rodi. In 2019, he was defeated by BJP candidate Sunita Duggal.
