Chandigarh, April 24, 2024 – (Punjab Khabarnama) The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday, has taken cognizance of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by RTI activist Manik Goyal, addressing the misuse of state resources and public funds for political rallies by the ruling AAP government in Punjab. The PIL highlights the alleged exploitation of state-owned passenger buses for political functions, leading to a shortage of buses for common passengers.
The court, while issuing notice of motion, has directed the Punjab government to file reply on the issues raised in the PIL. However, as of today, no reply has been filed by the government. The Additional Advocate General, present in the court of Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court, has accepted the notice on behalf of the respondents and has sought time to submit a reply on the petition.
The next hearing on this matter has been scheduled for April 28, 2024. The PIL underscores the importance of ensuring that state resources are utilized for the benefit of all citizens and not for political gains.
