April 19 (Punjab Khabarnama) : District Magistrate Mrs. Ashika Jain has issued an order in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 (Act No. 2 of 1974) that the Municipal Councils, Nagar Panchayats and Village Panchayats located within the limits of District Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar. Any person residing within the jurisdiction of when keeping a tenant/servant/paying guest in his house shall ensure to furnish full particulars thereof to the nearest police station within one week. This order will also apply to those who have not given the details of their already hired tenants, servants and paying guests to the police.

These prohibitory orders state that many people from other states and outside districts come to the district for employment/work etc. Apart from this, students/trainees from other states for studies in other educational institutions/institutions, persons related to various occupations/businesses as paying guests and service workers in call centers are also staying on rent. Many of these persons are from drug, anti-social and criminal background and create ruckus in rented premises and public places. The landlords do not register the information of these tenants with the police, due to which there is a fear of disruption of the law and order situation. These orders will remain in force from 11 April 2024 to 10 June 2024.
