April 16 (Punjab Khabarnama) : Sant Samaj has placed an environment-friendly agenda before all the political parties of Punjab and asked them to include it in their election manifestos. Talking to the journalists here at the Punjab Press Club Jalandhar, Sant Samaj also appealed to the voters of Punjab that they must ask the candidates coming to seek votes about issues related to life like clean water and clean air. Sant Samaj invited the people of Punjab to vote for the candidates of those political parties who will promise to keep the environment clean. During all the elections from the assembly elections until now, they have been demanding to include the issue of environment in the election manifestos. He said that on June 1, polling will be held for 13 Lok Sabha seats of Punjab. The election results of the entire country will be before us on June 4. People have to choose their representatives for the next 5 years, every voter asked the representative to be chosen for these 5 years, where has the clean water and air of our part gone. In the environmental agenda presented by Sant Samaj, 12 points have been discussed and the demand to make the election manifesto a legal document is also included.

Sant Seechewal said during the conversation that 310 districts of the country have come under the influence of climate change. These include 9 districts of Punjab, 8 districts of Himachal and 11 districts of Haryana. Among the 9 districts of Punjab which are under the influence of climate, Jalandhar, Gurdaspur, Moga, Faridkot and Bathinda districts are highly sensitive and apart from them Ferozepur, Muktsar, Mansa and Sangrur are also suffering from climate change. By the year 20250, water will run very hard in Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Amritsar districts. Sant Seechewal said that the forest area in Punjab has reduced to only 6% compared to 40% in 1947. According to experts, 33% area should be under forests for any state.
