April 16 (Punjab Khabarnama) : Is ex-minister and ex-Congress MLA from Rampura assembly constituency Gurpreet Kangar going to join Akali Dal? After the political equation changed after Parampal Kaur Sidhu, the daughter-in-law of Sikandar Singh Maluka, the rival of Kangar, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party, this kind of discussion has gained a lot of momentum in the corridors of politics and in the villages, cities and towns of Rampura constituency. . After losing during the 2022 assembly elections, Gurpreet Kangar had joined the BJP from where Kangar lost his disillusionment and returned to the Congress again and nowadays activities are being carried out in the Rampura constituency. .
However, on the occasion of Kangar’s presence in the BJP, another Congress leader was put in charge of the constituency, who is also sitting in the Rampura constituency. Now that Sikandar Singh Maluka’s family has joined the BJP, most of the people in the constituency are starting to feel that Maluka will not be able to continue with the Akali Dal for much longer. Although Maluka has clarified the situation through the media that she is with the Shiromani Akali Dal and will always be, but because of her daughter-in-law, she is starting to look like an alien. This is the reason why discussions of joining hands with Akali Dal of Gurpreet Kangar are hot in view of the unique political situation in Halka Rampura.
However, after Sikandar Singh Maluka, if there is a prominent political leader in the constituency, then it is Gurpreet Kangar, so the possibility of weight in the words of the common people cannot be ruled out. In fact, about two and a half decades ago, Gurpreet Singh Kangar used to be in the Shiromani Akali Dal. An old Akali leader of the constituency said that Surinder Kaur Badal, wife of late former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, loved Gurpreet Kangar a lot. Being an old staunch friend of Badal Badal and a confidant of the party, then Akali leader Sikander Singh Maluka used to speak out against him, due to which the political pulse could not be found in the Akali Dal of Kangar.
In the 2002 assembly elections, Akali Dal made Maluka its candidate from Rampura constituency in the 2002 assembly elections. Gurpreet Kangar also had full hope in those days that he too would get an honorable place in the Akali Dal. At that time there was also a discussion in the Akali circles that Kangar could be given a good position but it did not happen. An Akali leader said that of course Gurpreet Kangar was not much of an expert in politics then, but he also had ambitions to move forward which started clashing with the politics of Maluka and Gurpreet Kangar decided to move forward.
Meanwhile, the distance between the two leaders increased to such an extent that after consulting his supporters, Gurpreet Singh Kangar announced to contest as an independent candidate from Rampura constituency. But then, what happened in the constituency, Kangar became Kangar within days and the big village of New Poch, Kangar’s brother Gurpreet, was left behind. At that time, there was such an atmosphere that the heads of many families associated with the Akali Dal put their seals on the scales and the brothers not only voted for Kangar themselves but also voted for their grandfathers. Seeing the possibility of some kind of conflict on this occasion, the Election Commission had to declare the entire Rampura constituency as highly sensitive.
On this occasion, Gurpreet Kangar won and Maluka had to face defeat at the hands of his own party rebel. After this, Kangar never looked back and joined the Congress. The assembly elections of 2007 and 2017 were won by defeating Maluka. After losing in the year 2022, he fought for the BJP, which he later left and joined hands with the Congress. Now that the political situation has turned around, this discussion has started. Only time will tell what the result will be, but according to these facts, it cannot be denied that the folklore is true. Sources say that eyes are fixed on Maluka’s next move.
Only Congress politics: Kangar
Gurpreet Singh Kangar, former MLA from Rampura constituency, has rejected this discussion from the beginning. He said that now he will do politics only with the Congress party and has no intention of joining the Akali Dal or any other party.
