KINNOW WILL BE DISTRIBUTED TO STUDENTS EVERY TUESDAY UNTIL MARCH 31
PUNJAB GOVERNMENT HELPING FARMERS THROUGH MID-DAY MEAL
Barnala, 20 Feb (Punjab khabarnama) : Chief Minister S Bhagwant Singh Mann led Punjab government had decided to purchase kinnow through Punjab Agro to help the kinnow producing farmers and distribute the fruits to the students as a part of their mid-day meal menu. Accordingly all 33000 students of government schools and government aided schools of district Barnala were distributed the kinnow fruits today.
Giving this information here today Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs S Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer said that these nutritious fruits were distributed to 33000 students of Barnala district today and according to the instructions of the government, the fruit will be distributed every week on Tuesday until March 31. He said that there are a total of 182 primary schools, 115 secondary schools and 4 additional schools in Barnala district to which this fruit has been distributed today.
He said that on the demand of the kinnow cultivating farmers, the Punjab government decided to buy the fruits through Punjab Agro. Similarly, in the mid-day meal, earlier students were given banana as fruit, on which the Chief Minister decided to give a seasonal fruit in Punjab instead of banana. In view of this, it was decided to give kinnow instead of bananas in schools. This will provide good nutrition to the students as kinnow also has many nutritional properties.
In this regard, Deputy Commissioner Barnala Mrs Punamdeep Kaur said that different delivery points have been assigned for Barnala, Sehna and Mehal Kalan blocks where Punjab Agro delivers kinnow and the same is further distributed to respective schools. The delivery points assigned for Barnala block are Barnala and Dhanula, the delivery points assigned for Sehna are Tapa and Bhadaur and the delivery points for Mehal Kalan are Chananwal and Mehal Kalan.
